Copywriting 101: My Awesome Mother and How we wrote Copy for Sweet Potato Pudding

First...

My mother is the ideal student.

I'm teaching her instagram, at 74 years old.

She immediately started making posts on her own the next day...

But she messed up and left out the #hashtags I told her...

Must be apart of every post.

So I went in and edited the post...

adding them for her.

On her own without me knowing...

She went in and saw the concept behind the edits I made...

Then she made another post understanding her error...

And truly comprehending how to apply #hashtags to her instagram posts.

Now.

How do you sell a Jamaican Sweet Potato Pudding?

As a copywriter...

It's similar to market research.

You have to know the demographics...Psycho-graphics...social breakdown...

So I asked my mother if there were any traditions or sayings...

relative to Jamaican sweet potato pudding.

She said...

Hella top Hella Bottom Hallelujah in the middle.

Next...

I've baked all of the cakes my mother sells.

It was apart of my Marcus Lemonis from The Profit's approach...

Where he works in every aspect of the business he takes interest in.

The UNKNOWN thing about Sweet Potato Pudding is...

You have to grater about 5lbs of it...

to make 1 cake.

It's A LOT of WORK to grater 5 lbs of Sweet Potato.

All of my west indian raised kids know about the sweat shop kitchen table you grater yam roots...green banana...pick peas, sort sorrel leaves, grater ginger for ginger beer,...

Not something you want to do.

So I took those two elements and came up with this.

Hell a top,

Hell a bottom,

Hallelujah in the middle!

Anyone who has made a Potato pudding knows…

How strong you have to be…

To grater 1lb of sweet potato…

in order to make just ONE pudding!

And with Coconut flakes on the top…Hell a top!

Mixed into Organic Sweet Potato…Hallelujah in the middle!

Add to that only using whole spices…Hell a bottom!

Thank God Ms. Merl has God given strength…

And a sturdy grater!
